ADVICE

PHOTOGRAPHY

For the best results, please follow these simple guidelines when selecting photographs to send:

Lighting
Please ensure that the subject is well lit, so I can see all the details for an accurate likeness.

Eyes
Eyes are the primary focus in a portrait, so they should be clearly visible in your chosen photograph.
A highlight in their eye really helps to bring the portrait to life, and adds character.

Background
Check that they can be distinguished from the background, this ensures a nice, neat edge around them.

Focus
Quality photographs make for an accurate portrait, so I’m afraid very small or blurred images are not suitable.

Variety
Multiple photographs allow me to get a better idea of an animal's character.
I aim to capture personality, so a few extra shots displaying natural behaviour are more than welcome.

Original Photographic Prints
Prints are accepted if they are high quality and will be returned with your completed portrait.

Every portrait is unique, so please get in touch if there is
anything you would like to discuss in more detail

ARTWORK

Media
I work in a variety of media, including paint, pastel, pencil and digital (using a graphics tablet).
Please let me know if you have a preference for your portrait.
If not, I am happy to advise or simply use whichever I feel best suits your image.
Sometimes I incorporate more than one media to acheive the best results.

Size
Portraits are generally standard paper sizes  eg. A5, A4, A3, A2
This means that the framing process is simpler and faster.
Other sizes are welcome, just ask for a personalised quote.

Background
Backgrounds are usually kept quite simple, plain or blended tones.

Group Portraits
Two or more pets/animals can be included in a single portrait.
Also, a set of 'single subject' portraits can look wonderful together on display.

Time
I can give an estimated timescale once all details of a portrait have been decided.
Please let me know in advance if there is a deadline, as this may affect certain elements of a portrait.

Framing
Frame prices will depend on size and style chosen.
Oil paints often take longer to dry fully, which means framing can take a little longer.
Non-standard sizes will require extra time as they are made to measure.

Delivery
Delivery costs are calculated once the artwork is complete.
Price and times depend on where you live and the size/weight of the finished portrait.
I am based in Essex, United Kingdom, so portraits that travel far from there may be subject to higher charges.
